One of the most important aspects of independent living support services is knowing how to provide the best, safest and most comfortable environment for your client to live in. When you decide to offer supported independent living services, there are some basic guidelines you should keep in mind so that your clients get the help they need to live safe and healthy lives. Here are some tips on how to do this.
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living is a service that provides seniors and individuals with disabilities who require some level of support to maintain their independent living skills. It’s important for elders and those with disabilities who wish to remain in the community, live independently and make decisions about their own lives to have access to these services. Supported living may include supportive supervision, personal care services, assistance with decision-making, caregiver training or respite care.
Supported independent living support services are an essential part of making sure people have the proper resources needed so they can live on their own terms.
Supported independent living gives people confidence by teaching them how to do certain tasks on their own which may help them keep independence for years after they need more than just one person taking care of them.

These supports may include such things as providing grocery shopping trips, helping with cooking meals, cleaning house, taking medicine properly and managing health conditions. SIL may be provided by family members, friends or paid professionals from home care agencies and social service providers.
